Gemini Live Lets Your AI See. Llama Drops The Ball. Shopify Says It's AI Or Bust! Corleo Robot Horse
AI News - April 7
Gemini Live gives your AI assistant Eyes Meta Llama 4 is released to controversy, Shopify says that it's AI or bust and Corleo is a modern day cowboy's dream. Here's today's AI news. Google's Gemini Live is rolling out to some of the latest Android devices like Pixel 9 and the Galaxy S25, or if you have a Gemini Pro subscription.
[00:22.0]
Gemini Live allows the AI assistant to see the world around you as the camera from your Device becomes the AI's vision. This allows users to ask Gemini for immediate feedback on what it is seeing. Perhaps you're looking into your fridge and want some recipe ideas, or maybe you need some guidance on a technical task.
[00:39.7]
Whatever you need, Gemini is on hand to give you some assistance in real time. In our tests it's been remarkably accurate and it really gives a glimpse into how AI will become increasingly intertwined into our lives. At the weekend, Meta launched the Llama 4 series with three new models, Scout, Maverick and Behemoth.
[00:57.9]
The Llama 4 Scout model features a 10 million context window and Maverick has 1 million. There were some amazing performance claims and some excellent benchmark results, but some users thought that something was a little off. Why was such an important and high performing model released at the weekend?
[01:14.2]
Why did the head of Meta AI Research announce their departure right before the launch? Why wasn't the output from the model quite seeming to live up to the hype? Today, allegations have appeared claiming that Meta was deliberately manipulating its benchmark data to make the model appear better than it actually is.
[01:32.8]
If this turns out to be true, it will result in some huge reputational damage for Meta. Let's see how this one plays out. In a leaked memo, Shopify CEO Toby Lutke has issued a mandate insisting that AI is is integrated at every level and by every person in the company.
[01:50.6]
The memo emphasises that before requesting additional headcount or resources, teams must demonstrate why AI cannot fulfil their needs. This policy reflects a broader expectation for all employees to effectively use AI. With performance reviews now incorporating AI usage, clearly Shopify is trying to take the lead in AI adoption, but are these demands too far, too soon or just ahead of the curve?
[02:14.6]
And finally, Kawasaki has unveiled its new concept Corleo, a four legged robot that you can actually ride, kind of like a robot horse. Currently, it's still in the concept stage of life, so the accompanying video is all cgi, but a full size preliminary model was shown off at a recent tech show.
[02:31.6]
It's rumoured that it will run on a hydrogen engine and will use artificial intelligence that analyses the position of both the robot and the rider. Keeping the rider in the saddle. Are we really going full circle in human transportation with us all returning to the horse? All we know is that we want one.
