Newly released dash camera footage shows the moments Boynton Beach police officers shot and killed a man who charged at them with a machete following a domestic dispute with his father Saturday.

Investigative Reporter Terri Parker uncovered that this wasn’t the first time the suspect, Edenson Jules, 31, dared officers to shoot him.

According to Boynton Beach police, officers responded to Intracoastal Park after reports of an altercation between Jules and his father. Officers say they attempted to de-escalate the situation, repeatedly telling Jules to drop the weapon.

Instead, police say Jules refused and yelled: “Shoot — why don’t you want to shoot?” Moments later, he charged at officers while swinging the machete.

Officers opened fire, and the footage captured the sound of multiple gunshots. Jules was rushed to Delray Medical Center, where he later died.

Parker uncovered court records showing that just four months ago, during a December traffic stop for a counterfeit tag, Jules also challenged another officer to shoot him.

“Jules immediately told me he was not getting out of the vehicle and told me to ‘shoot him!’ and he wanted to go back to his country,” the officer wrote in the incident report.

That encounter ended without violence after Jules was threatened with a Taser and ultimately complied. He was charged with possessing a counterfeit tag and resisting an officer without violence.
