Why Are They Paying the Press Right Now?

A new report from The Hub reveals that federal funding is pouring into legacy media—right in the middle of the election period. The Hub itself received a $22,000 government payout, which it rejected and publicly disclosed. But it’s just the tip of the iceberg.

A government body responsible for distributing over $100 million in annual media funding is now cutting checks during the writ period, raising serious concerns about election interference. And while some media outlets still try to appear neutral, CBC—entirely taxpayer-funded—has become openly partisan, especially when it comes to defending Mark Carney and the Liberals.
Meanwhile, the polling gap among older voters—those still relying on cable TV for news—lines up perfectly with these media handouts. Funny how that works.
