Trump compares tariffs to “medicine” as global stock markets plunge

Global stock markets plunged again on Monday, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs impact nations worldwide.

Trump shut down “stupid” concerns that he was intentionally trying to damage markets, telling reporters on Air Force One that neither wants, or plans for “anything to go down.”

“Sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something,” the Republican leader said.

Federal representatives across the U.K., Europe and Asia are condemning Trump’s actions, and – for the most part – expressing confidence in plans to unify as the U.S. pushes away its global trade partners.

Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to “solve the deficit problem” between the U.S. and partners across Europe and Asia. On Sunday, he suggested he would be unwilling to negotiate with Asian or European markets until those issues were rectified.
