🇨🇩 Heavy Rains Cause Deadly Flooding and Landslides in DR Congo’s Capitall

🌧 Torrential rains have killed around 30 people in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, plunging the Central African metropolis into chaos. The downpours, which began overnight from Friday to Saturday, caused the Ndjili River to overflow, submerging entire neighborhoods such as Limete and Matete.

⚠️ Floodwaters overwhelmed many remote and impoverished suburbs of the city — home to nearly 17 million people — forcing some residents to navigate the streets in canoes.

💧 At least 10 fatalities were also reported in Mont-Ngafula, where landslides destroyed homes. According to Patricien Gongo Abakazi, the provincial health minister of Kinshasa, "Many injured people were evacuated, and the current death toll is nearing 30." Victims reportedly drowned or were crushed by collapsing walls.
