How a new 'Humane Method of Execution' (The Guillotine) became a tool for Mass Killing & Terror 💀

In 1791, a French doctor named Joseph-Ignace Guillotin proposed the machine be used in France, as a more humane method of capital punishment. The first execution was carried out on a highwayman in 1792 and the machine became known as the "Guillotine". But the crowd watching was upset because the execution was over too quickly. This soon lead to mass executions for the public, where dozens were killed, one-after-another, to satisfy the bloodlust of spectators.

During the French Revolution, the Guillotine was utilized without a second thought to the plight of the condemned. A tool created to end life without suffering, soon paved the way for mass executions, as simple as flipping a switch.
