Jamaicans are to Pan Africanism, what Jamaicans are to Hip Hop.

In the related video to this short, I dive into the complex dynamics between Foundational Black Americans (FBAs) and the Caribbean and African immigrants they refer to as "tethers". Exploring issues of culture, identity, and historical contributions, I discuss what solidarity, accountability, and mutual respect look like among these Black communities. The related video highlights the contributions of Black immigrants to the slavery abolition and Civil Rights movements in America. I posit the idea that American abolitionists and rebels were inspired in symbolic and practical ways to fight for their own freedom.

This short focuses on how the prominent Pan Africanist and Black Power leaders of our time have been of Caribbean descent. So-called tethers have more than participated in but have led the Civil rights movement in the US which is what allowed Caribbean immigrants to have greater access to
America. Caribbean immigration to the United States was made possible by Caribbean activism, not FBA activism.

The overall discussion is aimed at bridging gaps in understanding between Black Americans and Black immigrants.
