Dr. Erin Gombos threatened to have his morphine drip taken away since he didn't want to comply & die fast enough and give up his bed at hospice to go home to die. He knew he wouldn't survive the trip. He died 48 hours later.

Meet oncologist Erin Gombos, Smilow Cancer Center, Yale New Haven, Connecticut hospital. She was on Austin’s hospice team.

With chemo and immunotherapy failing, we went in to begin a clinical trial. Austin’s blood counts couldn’t meet the criteria, scans showed all of his masses had fused together, shredding his stomach into ribbons. Liver, kidneys, groin all exploded in cancer. Abscesses and multiple ulcers now infected his GI tract. Blood and fluid filled his lungs. We were told he had three days if we were lucky.

Home hospice was not an option. The belief was one of Austin’s ulcers would rupture, giving him a painful death and a traumatic one for the kids and I to witness. It would be very bloody.

So we did hospice at Yale. For whatever reason, Austin’s ulcers and tumors stabilized for almost two weeks, allowing us a well spent goodbye.

Less than 48hrs before Austin passed away, a hospice nurse notified us that his medical team wanted to transfer him home. We knew if they attempted to bring him home, Austin would die in transport. He was completely bed ridden and had not moved at all in weeks. Pill form medication could not work because his stomach was ripped.

Morphine drips are not allowed in homes at this time.

Austin said no to going home.

Erin Gombos and Austin’s two other medical doctors walked into our room to hear our decision. Gombos went and sat on the couch that I slept on, making herself comfortable instead of standing with the medical team. When we told them the answer was no due to their own recommendation of his painful death, Gombos rolled her eyes and scoffed at me, saying “hospice has black towels. Stick your kids in a different room and clean the blood with that.” Austin and I were in disbelief. We stood firm.

Gombos stood from the couch and walked over to Austin, placing her hand on his feet and stated, “since you want to be difficult, we’ll see about taking away your morphine drip.”

I reported her and she was taken off of his case.
Erin Gombos is a disgusting cunt of a human being and has no business being allowed around patients.

May evil find her. May she experience my hopeless despair one hundred fold.

My husband was a beautiful, vibrant artist. Insanely smart and witty and funny. He was only 31, just missed his 32nd birthday. He deserved so much more in this life. I am forever heartbroken.
