Thunderstorms trigger catastrophic flooding across the middle of the US

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are causing catastrophic flooding across the central U.S., killing at least eight people and leading to widespread damage in Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana, and Kentucky.

A 9-year-old boy in Kentucky was swept away by floodwaters.

Flash flood warnings are in effect from Texas to Kentucky, with record rainfall expected in some areas.

Historic flooding is occurring, particularly in Arkansas, Missouri, and Kentucky, where roads are submerged, and rescues are ongoing.

The storms have caused significant damage, including tornadoes that have devastated towns like Selmer, Tennessee, and Pilot Grove, Missouri, CNN has reported.

Authorities are urging residents to stay off the roads as the storms continue through the weekend.
