Former US President Barack Obama says that after spending two terms in the White House, he now tries to spend happier times with his wife because he feels that he owes a great deal to his relationship with Michelle Obama.

In a conversation with Hamilton University President Steven Tepper, Obama said, in response to a question about life after his presidency, "I was in a heavy debt to my wife."

"So I've been trying to get out of this hole by doing the occasional fun thing," Obama added.

Obama and Michelle married in 1992. He had previously said that leaving the White House in 2017 improved and strengthened his relationship with his wife. He previously said in 2023, “Let me say this; "It definitely helps to not be in the White House anymore and have more time to be with him."

Beyond trying to please his wife, Obama said that now he spends most of his time on the Obama Foundation and writing the second volume of his memoirs.

About the process of writing this book, he said that it is like writing 50 term papers. That is, it seems as if it has no end. He added: People ask me do you enjoy writing? I say not at all, but when I'm done writing, I'll be happy that I've written, Obama added: I hope I can finally finish this.
