HEINRICH: “— can come to the table and make deals, and how long the president can stomach the fallout.”

BAIER: “But isn’t it, Mark, possible that the tariffs — in last term, it was both the tax cuts and tariffs at the same time. So it was a little easier to put out the public message. This time the tariffs are hitting. But it could galvanized some Republicans to say we need the growth agenda here.”

HALPERIN: “I don’t think it’s why he pursued the tariffs, but I think absolutely, because the way they passed this bill, because there will be disagreements about raising the debt ceiling or how much to cut things, how much to cut taxes, is to say the presidency is on the line and the House is on fire because everybody’s against us for your tariffs. Let’s pass this. So I think — I think they’re going to pass it much sooner with the forcing mechanism no being the raising of the debt ceiling, not being the expiration of the tax cuts. The forcing mechanism is we got to pass something that’s popular, tax cuts, energy, deregulation. And I think they’ve got a much better chance now because of tariffs than they did before.”

BAIER: “Yeah, it’s interesting. Up next, the Friday lightning round, firings at the NSA.”
