Don’t get overwhelmed by your many defects; pinpoint that main root, whether it’s pride putting yourself first, avarice clinging to earthly goods, or another capital sin. Then, focus your fight! The remedy isn’t just willpower; it’s embracing the opposite virtue, like humility against pride or generosity against avarice. Look to Christ, His Holy Mother, and the saints as your models, imitate their humility and detachment, accept the humiliations God sends to purify you, and remember that without God, you can do nothing. Rip up that root vice by its source, and all other virtues will begin to flourish within you.
