Kathmandu is the capital and largest city of Nepal, located in the Bagmati Province within the Kathmandu Valley. It was founded in 723 by Raja Gunakamadeva and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world, with a history spanning nearly 2,000 years. The city sits at an elevation of 4,344 feet (1,324 meters) above sea level.

Kathmandu is known for its rich cultural heritage, blending ancient traditions with modern advancements. It is home to numerous historic sites, including the three UNESCO-listed Durbar Squares, which showcase the architecture and history of the Newar people, the indigenous inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley. The city is also famous for its temples and monasteries, such as the Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the "Monkey Temple," and the Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa in Nepal.

Tourism is a significant part of Kathmandu's economy, with the city serving as a gateway to Nepal's trekking and adventure tourism. It offers a range of activities, from exploring ancient temples and monasteries to engaging in outdoor adventures like trekking to Everest Base Camp. The city's infrastructure includes the Tribhuvan International Airport, the largest and only international airport in Nepal.

Kathmandu's population is approximately 856,767, with the surrounding agglomeration housing around 4 million people.

Traveling to Kathmandu is very easy and it’s a place that is well worth a visit.
