This episode covers the Huanggutun Incident of 1928 where the Kwantung Army performed an assassination of Zhang Zuolin, attempting to place a new puppet ruler over Manchuria. The Northern expedition of Chiang Kai-Shek and the Nationalists was drawing the Warlord Era to a close and all that lay in their way was the Tiger of Manchuria Zhang Zuolin. The Japanese threatened Zhang Zuolin to abide by their wishes, but he chose to defy them, spelling his own doom.
