Dr. Andrew Wakefield: "You look at the rate of autism in California now, from the time when I was a medical student, one in ten thousand, it's now approached one in twenty two children. One in twenty two children. That is one in fourteen boys. That is the true pandemic. That is what we should be worried about."

"Mortality from measles infection, measles disease was declining precipitously from the nineteen twenties onwards. It was approaching zero without any intervention, without any vaccines, without any antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections, that's what was happening. That was herd immunity."

"If we'd left alone and done nothing, that would have decayed to effectively zero deaths from that disease. There would have been real herd immunity, but they didn't wanna do that. Why? Because there was profit to be made, and they had this, you know, this, the the perceived success of polio vaccine led them down this road that we should have a vaccine for every disease irrespective of how serious it is and every child should get it."

Die Sterblichkeitsrate durch Maserninfektionen, die Zahl der Masernerkrankungen, ging ab den 1920er Jahren rapide zurück. Sie näherte sich Null, ohne jegliche Intervention, ohne Impfstoffe, ohne Antibiotika für sekundäre bakterielle Infektionen – das war der Zeitpunkt. Das war Herdenimmunität.

Hätten wir nichts unternommen, wäre die Zahl der Todesfälle durch diese Krankheit praktisch auf null gesunken. Es hätte eine echte Herdenimmunität gegeben, aber das wollten sie nicht. Warum? Weil damit Profit zu machen war, und der vermeintliche Erfolg des Polio-Impfstoffs brachte sie zu der Annahme, dass es für jede Krankheit einen Impfstoff geben sollte, unabhängig von ihrer Schwere, und dass jedes Kind ihn bekommen sollte.

Und das ist ganz ähnlich wie die Geschichte der Antibiotika: In weniger als hundert Jahren sind wir vom Wunder der Antibiotika zur Post-Antibiotika-Apokalypse gelangt. So beschreibt es das öffentliche Gesundheitswesen, nicht ich. Die Post-Antibiotika-Apokalypse multiresistenter, hochgefährlicher Organismen, die speziell und aufgrund des übermäßigen Einsatzes von Antibiotika entstanden sind.
