Non-AI Opening Monologue

We firstly celebrate the milestone of reaching our 150th delivery of Blindspot. But, we’re not in this for self congratulatory missives. Before we get to the big global news of Trump’s Tariffs, it seems as if one of the biggest lies ever told in South Africa is coming to an end, being its supposed ‘Government of National Unity’ (GNU). The GNU setup is a lie because there is no national unity represented by a government cobbled together by a party that suffered a historical loss in the 2024 elections, being the ANC. The moment has come and it seems as if the GNU will soon be gone. But, probably to be replaced by an even bigger GNU’d lie. But, who knows.

On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean from a South African geographic point of view Trump 2.0, on 2 April, unleashed his Tariff Shock & Awe campaign. While much can be said about the impact this will, may, or may not have, the fact is, in Blindspot’s view, that this is the final nail in the coffin of globalisation as the world has known it since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The second to last nail in that same coffin, was the fall-out of the Russian SMO in Ukraine, which, Larry Fink, president of Blackrock, called out in 2022, as the signal of the end of globalisation.

If the SMO was the onset of globalisation’s death, then, the Trump tariff wars are most certainly going to firmly slam- and nail the lid on the coffin of both globalisation, and unilateralism, shut!
