Baltimore, MD - A 35-year-old man has died after firing a self-inflicted gunshot to the head at the District Court of Baltimore.

35-year-old Garry Wright, of Baltimore, was pronounced dead on February 1, according to the Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General.

Officials said on Jan. 31, at approximately 8:40 a.m., a District Court of Maryland bailiff assigned to the Baltimore City Eastside District Court was working security at the public entrance of the courthouse. The bailiff has been identified as Gary Brown, a 1-year veteran with the District Court, according to the IID.

Garry Wright entered the courthouse at 1400 E. North Avenue in Baltimore. Police said the man was "suffering from a behavioral crisis," and was seen pacing.

While standing near the door, Wright pulled a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at his own head, authorities said.

Gary Brown then drew his handgun and pointed it at Wright. During the interaction, Brown and Wright discharged their handguns. Police said that a shot hit Wright in his lower extremities.

Wright was wounded during the encounter and was transported to a hospital where it was listed in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, officials said.

The IID continues to investigate the circumstances of the fatal shooting, officials said.
