Open Letter to the Australian Government
To the Representatives of the Australian Government,
I am Chan Han Choi, a victim of severe human rights violations and medical neglect in Australia. This letter serves as a strong protest against the Australian government's double standards on human rights and the unjust treatment I have endured.
1. Hypocrisy: "The Thief Holding the Stick"
The Australian government’s demand for humane treatment of Australian citizen Oscar Jenkins, who was captured as a prisoner of war during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, is astonishing.
•"Why does the Australian government advocate for human rights abroad while denying medical protection to its own citizens?"
•"Is it not a human rights violation to systematically neglect me as I suffer from diabetic complications in an Australian prison?"
2. Deliberate Medical Neglect and Life-Threatening Conditions
I was denied medical treatment by the Australian government, resulting in the following severe illnesses:
•Diabetic Neuropathy: Increased risk of limb necrosis
•Cardiovascular Damage: Threefold increase in the risk of heart attacks and strokes (based on International Diabetes Federation standards)
•Memory Loss and Acute Complications: In August 2020, I was admitted to the ICU due to uncontrolled blood sugar levels
The Australian government not only ignored my compensation requests in October and November 2024 but also deprived me of legal rights by restricting lawyer visits, blocking interpreters, and wiretapping my calls.
3. Trial in Absentia and Denial of Retrial: The Corruption of Australia’s Judicial System
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) guarantees all defendants the right to a fair trial and adequate legal defense. However, the Australian government conducted a trial in my absence and unilaterally rejected my retrial request.
•"Is this the rule of law that Australia prides itself on?"
•"Does Australia have the moral authority to demand human rights from Russia?"
4. International Condemnation and ICC Investigation Request
International human rights organizations have criticized Australia's "selective human rights diplomacy" and pointed out that its deliberate medical neglect violates the UN Nelson Mandela Rules.
•"The Australian government must be investigated by the International Criminal Court (ICC)."
•"The international community must call out Australia's hypocritical human rights policies."
5. The Australian Government Must Respond
Before demanding the release of Oscar Jenkins, you have an obligation to save your own citizen.
•"Immediately cease the life-threatening neglect."
•"Acknowledge the injustice of my trial in absentia and apologize for denying a retrial."
"Issue a formal apology for Australia’s double standards on human rights."
This issue is not just a personal tragedy but a grave matter that shakes the foundation of Australia's entire human rights system. The international community is already watching Australia’s actions closely.
I demand a response.
Chan Han Choi
