In this Episode: Some dads think preparing for trial means just showing up. Nope. You have to write your testimony for months before you testify. Edit. Re-write. Add & delete content. Perfect it. Memorize it. Many lawyers don’t recognize how important this is. But you have to write it all out – and review it again and again - to ensure your testimony proves your case: that you should be a 50/50 or primary custodial parent. Whether or not you have a lawyer doesn’t change the fact that this is YOUR job to do, and only yours.

How did I get primary custody of our son? I testified about each Best Interest Factor, one-at-a-time, methodically, to show I should have primary custody, based on reality. I called my strategy “The Pincer Movement” and now I’m teaching it to you. Hope this helps.

Fathers should have equal parenting rights, whether unmarried or divorcing. You may be seeking temporary custody, primary custody, joint physical custody, 50/50 parenting, or legal custody. You may want a divorce lawyer. You may seek out resources from father’s rights groups.

Ultimately, you need to learn how to win a custody battle as a dad, largely by focusing on the best interests of your child. You’re getting a divorce from your ex, not your children. If you have a Restraining Order or Order of Protection against you, it’s an uphill climb. The Silver Bullet in family court can be deadly. If restraining orders are based on false allegations, there are ways to turn that around to your advantage. I did. But you must be assertive. You have to learn how to navigate the forensic evaluation, CPS children's services investigations, & family law.

Sorry you're in divorce/family court. But if you think it’s in the best interests of your child for YOU to have equal or primary custody, I’m showing you what I learned, to give you a fighting chance.
