Influenza (Flu) in the Unani System of Medicine

In the Unani System of Medicine, Influenza (Nazla-e-Wabai) is considered a result of an imbalance in the body's humors (Akhlat), particularly due to excessive cold and moist temperament (Burudat wa Rutubat). It is believed to be caused by an invasion of harmful substances (Maddah Fasidah) that disturb the body's natural balance. Symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, headache, and body aches. Treatment in Unani involves strengthening the immune system (Quwwat-e-Mudabbira-e-Badan) through herbal formulations, detoxification (Tanqiya), and dietary modifications. Common remedies include herbs like Asl-us-Soos (Licorice), Zanjabeel (Ginger), and Laung (Clove), along with regimens like Hammam (steam therapy) and Munzij Mushil (concoctive and purgative therapy) to expel harmful substances from the body.
