Demonstrating Choice Handling

Sunny Boy is demonstrating choice handling 😁

He has been giving us a hard time (worse than usual) about stepping up so I thought I'd let him believe this is done by his choice and not mine. It works every single time.

When we, as parrot keepers understand that pretty much everything is done on their terms, it makes things go more smoothly.

Just like once he steps up and he doesn't want to get down I go about my business with him perched on my arm until he feels ready.

We cannot and should never force anything upon them. They have a mind of their own and we need to respect that and their boundaries. All we can do is keep trying and training the best that we can. Be consistent, repetitive and patient. Things will improve over time if we don't give up 🩵
