Will Canada's Refusal to Integrate Immigrants Be Our Downfall?

Why does it seem that Canadians -- and naturalized citizens of most Western nations in general for that matter -- are always expected to bend over backwards to accommodate the customs and practices of immigrants, while this behaviour would never be reciprocated or even presumed from any non-Western nation?

What does the Catholic Church and the overall Christian roots of Western society have to do with the situation in which we find ourselves, and why does it seem so difficult for Westerners to separate the desire to live in an integrated high-trust society from the notion of "racism" or "xenophobia?"
