Fix your tie, keep moving? There's an old East Texas saying: “It doesn’t matter how much milk you spill, just don't lose the cow." In simple terms: mistakes don't make failures, mismanaging them does. Charlie Chaplin said, “No matter how desperate the predicament, I always clutch my cane, straighten my derby hat, and fix my tie, even if I've just landed on my head.” Mistakes bring embarrassment, denial, and, eventually, shame—but they don't define failure.
Think about it. How can we manage mistakes effectively without letting embarrassment, denial, or shame turn them into failures?
God’s Word: “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again, but the wicked stumble when calamity strikes (Proverbs 24:16).”
When we make mistakes, especially those impacting others, it's crucial to make the right decision immediately. The first step determines everything. If we choose wrong, we risk getting lost. Admit mistakes quickly, repent, and seek prayer. This turns an error into a lesson, not failure. Clutch your cane, fix your tie, and keep moving forward—learning is just ahead.
