Why ‘Predestination’ and other ‘Fixed Timeline’ time travel movies are unsatisfying

I, like many others, love a good time travel movie. So many time travel movies operate on different time travel logic, which can allow for some exciting and even funny events that engage viewers and make you think. Fixed timeline movies are the exception. No matter how well executed the vision is for a fixed timeline time travel movie, one often feels robbed for investing the time in a movie that ends up having no stakes; you may as well just watch the loading circle loop for 2 hours.
