What we’re seeing in France with Le Pen is just the latest chapter in a global trend: criminalizing dissent, especially when that dissent threatens the ruling class. The American Left pioneered the model, raid your political opponent’s home, slap charges on him during an election year, and call it “saving democracy.” Now Europe is copying the script.

Populists around the world are gaining momentum because everyday people are fed up with open borders, with inflation, with unelected bureaucrats running their lives. But instead of listening, the elites panic and send in the prosecutors. That’s not democracy. That’s tyranny in a tailored suit.
