The Thing in the Apartment – Short Horror Story

Lena had just moved into her new apartment. It was small but cozy, with creaky wooden floors and an old full-length mirror nailed to the wall. She didn’t think much of it.

On her first night, she noticed odd noises—a faint scraping behind the mirror. Dismissing it as old pipes, she went to bed.

By the third night, she started hearing whispers—soft, raspy voices coming from the mirror. When she looked, her reflection seemed delayed, moving a second slower than she did.

One evening, feeling unnerved, she decided to cover the mirror with a bedsheet. She slept uneasily, hearing faint scratching. In the morning, the sheet was on the floor, and her reflection was smiling, though she was not.

Panicked, Lena grabbed a hammer and smashed the mirror. Behind it was a dark, narrow crawlspace, where a human-shaped figure crouched. It had no eyes—just hollow sockets—and a stretched, lipless grin.

Before she could scream, it lunged at her.
