"You should look at your own mind to see whether it is like that or not. It is certain that all of the diverse characteristics of things are liberated into their own condition, like clouds in the atmosphere that are self-originated and self-liberated."
—Padmasambhava, Advice from the Lotus-Born

Lama Dawa Zangpo’s Commentary:
The nature of the mind is vast, boundless, and beyond ordinary comprehension. Padmasambhava invites us to look beyond surface appearances and recognize our awareness as something that is neither fixed nor confined by concepts. True wisdom does not come from intellectual study alone but from directly perceiving this ever-present, luminous awareness. This teaching aligns with the Dzogchen view—that the mind’s nature is inherently pure, empty, and self-liberating. The mind is not an object to be grasped, but an experience of unbounded clarity. When we stop trying to define or locate awareness, we begin to see its true nature—formless yet present, empty yet vividly clear. Instead of searching for understanding outside yourself, turn your attention inward. Observe your thoughts and emotions as they arise and dissolve. What remains? This openness, this vast knowing—this is your “natural face,” beyond concepts and limitations. When you recognize it, you truly understand the nature of things.
