A test rocket has dramatically crashed into the sea and exploded less than a minute after launching from a spaceport in Norway.

The uncrewed Spectrum rocket was scheduled to be the first attempt at an orbital flight launched from Europe. Several European nations, including Sweden and Britain, have expressed desire to grab a share of the growing market for commercial space missions.

German startup Isar Aerospace, which had warned that the initial launch could end prematurely, said the test produced extensive data that its team can learn from.

The company said it would analyse all the data and hopes to be back on the launch pad as soon as possible.
