A Treatise of Human Nature: Being an Attempt to Introduce the Experimental Method of Reasoning into Moral Subjects (1739–40) is a seminal work by Scottish philosopher David Hume, widely regarded as his most significant contribution to philosophy and one of the most influential texts in the history of the discipline. My favourite part of the treatise is the second book "Of Passions". Here, Hume presents very isightful view of human nature, and at the same time, this part is the clearest expression of his way of thinking, at least in my opinion. Personally, I don’t agree with every aspect of Hume’s philosophy, but there is much that resonates with me. One of the main disagreements is that I advocate the philosophy of idealism, Hume was not an idealist, he was a naturalist, he was also a skeptic, and I really like some of his ideas, especially his critique of human reason, his emphasis on imagination and empiricism focused on the mind from a subjective point of view. All we can be sure of is our own experience, and Hume understood that. Everything in this discussion is drawn from his life experience. When I engage with his works, I approach them with the mindset of wanting to be convinced. Today, we’ll delve into the Treatise of one of the wisest minds in history, attempting to understand what Hume truly wanted to convey.
