A major 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Mandalay, Myanmar on Friday, March 28, 2025. It was shallow (10km depth) on the Sagaing Fault, causing widespread destruction, especially in the Sagaing Region and Mandalay. Tragically, over 1,600 people have died, thousands are injured, and many are missing. Damage to buildings and infrastructure is significant, and international aid efforts are underway. It's the most powerful earthquake in Myanmar in over a century and the second deadliest in its history.
