Freelance inverted gearless hit and miss engine

Made from an inverted air compressor used in a dry fire sprinkler system. The eccentric operates a ratchet which indexes a “star” with four cutouts to negate the need for a 2:1 gearing to operate the exhaust valve. Bore and stroke is 4x6”. A pendulum governer latches the exhaust valve open if the engine over speeds. Ignition is via hot tube and fuel is propane. The plate holding the ratchet arm was first patterned in wood and cast at a local foundry. The original crank shaft was replaced with one from a 3 hp McCormick M.I had to make the con rod to get the correct stroke and compression ratio
