Trump wants to annex Greenland: And now, a short film posted on social media explains exactly why! The highly professional, yet slightly propagandistic production depicted:

► How, during World War II, the Nazis expanded their aggression toward the Arctic and the US defended Greenland – and how a military ship was sunk by a German submarine and hundreds of US soldiers drowned in the icy waters. Four heroic priests on board handed over their life jackets to save their comrades.

The flag of Greenland was adopted on June 21, 1985, as the flag of the autonomous country of Greenland within the Kingdom of Denmark, in accordance with Act No. 6 of 1985. When the Greenland Post Office issued a sheet of commemorative stamps in 1995 to mark the flag's tenth anniversary, together with Thue Christiansen, the designer explained that the white stripe represented the glaciers, the red stripe the ocean, the red semicircle the fjords, and the white semicircle the icebergs and pack ice. Alternatively, the design depicts the setting sun, half-submerged below the horizon and reflected in the sea. The choice of colors points to the centuries-long connection with Denmark, while the absence of a Scandinavian cross symbolizes independence from Denmark.
