Hawaii, Day Four: Simon Says I’m a Winner!

This happened to us several times during our vacation: my kids wanted to play ‘Simon Says’ in the pool, other kids would hear us, and ask if they could join.

We always say, “Yes.”

(We also, for the record, wonder why we’re among the very, very few adults in the pool interacting with our kiddos. For the most part, if the kid wasn’t an infant in a floater in need of an adult to stay alive, the parents were in lounge chairs, drinking, and playing on their phones. Sure, we did some of that, but we also were in the ocean with them non-stop, boogie boarding, snorkeling, splashing about… 

Your kids are only kids once, so you should take advantage of it.)

So, we’d have a handful of little ones either giving (if they were ‘Simon’) or obeying orders.

More often than not, my mouth gets ahead of my brain, and even when it doesn’t, my brain doesn’t work right and is spitting out dumb thoughts.

This works well for a career as a comedian; not so much when I’m in a family-friendly situation.

Which means that of course I’m going to say the wrong thing.

Hey, at least I didn’t swear in front of the kids.

That would have been no bueno.
