Nasir Khusraw, born in 1004 in Qubadiyan, a district near Balkh in the region of Khurasan (present-day Tajikistan), was a distinguished Persian poet, philosopher, traveler, and Isma'ili missionary. His full name was Abu Mu'in Hamid al-Din Nasir ibn Khusraw ibn Harith al-Qubadiyani al-Marvazi, reflecting his deep ties to his birthplace and lineage.

Coming from a family of government officials, Nasir Khusraw received a robust education, which laid the foundation for his future scholarly pursuits. He initially served as a financial administrator under the Ghaznavid rulers and later under the Seljuks after their conquest of Khurasan.
