A strong 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Thai capital of Bangkok on Friday, March 28, 2025, causing buildings to sway. The epicenter was located in central Myanmar, about 50 kilometers east of the city of Monywa, according to Germany’s GFZ center for geosciences.
Bangkok Earthquake on March 28, 2025: The earthquake, which was shallow at 10 kilometers, caused buildings to sway and prompted evacuations in the densely populated city. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Since 1900, Bangkok has experienced several significant earthquakes, with the strongest being a 4.5 magnitude quake on April 19, 1990, 78 kilometers away from the city.

Bangkok, situated on a stable portion of the Eurasian Plate, is generally at a low risk for earthquakes. However, the city is built on deep and soft alluvial soil, which can amplify ground motion even from distant seismic events.

As of now the collapsed building is said to have had 50 workers inside with 7 survivors being rescued.
