Nick Mayer is an award-winning nature illustrator whose work captures the beauty of fish and marine life with a unique scientific perspective. A former marine biologist and lifelong fly fishing addict, his journey into art was shaped by incredible life experiences—including surviving a fall overboard into the Bering Sea and a near floatplane crash in Northern Labrador.

Nick has illustrated four books, including Catalina Island Dive Buddies and Fish ABCs, and his artwork is featured in galleries and stores across more than 30 countries.

In this episode, we sit down with Nick to talk about his love for fishing, his artistic journey, and the connections between science and art. We also explore sport fishing from behind-the-scenes tournament action to expert strategies. Whether you’re an angler, an artist, or just someone who enjoys a good fishing story, this conversation has something for you.
