Douglas "Doug" Balfour Silver's career spans over four decades, during which he has been instrumental in mineral discoveries, company formations, and the advancement of industry professionals. An economic geologist by training, Doug began his career in 1980 with The Anaconda Minerals Company, where he was among the principal discoverers of the Silver Creek molybdenum deposit in Colorado. He later founded Balfour Holdings, providing technical and economic consulting to the global minerals industry. In 1989, he established the Denver Gold Group, now a premier gold investor forum. Doug also co-founded International Royalty Corporation (IRC) in 2003, which went public in 2005, raising CAD$192 million—the largest mining-based financing in Canada that year. Under his leadership, IRC's assets grew to include various minerals, becoming a barometer of mining sector health. The company was sold in 2010 for CAD$745 million. Doug then joined Red Kite Management, and later Orion Resource Partners, managing assets exceeding US$4 billion.
