These incredible golden hats are surely among the most spectacular artefacts from bronze age Europe. Dating to between about 1600 BC and 800 BC, over three thousand years old, they are made from shining gold. To understand these four objects we need to look at them in the context of bronze age Europe; technological advancements, the gods they worshipped, and their material culture.
How were these special artefacts made? What do the designs on them mean? And how do they relate to the bronze age solar cult? This is the story of the mysterious Golden Hats of Bronze Age Europe.
