With most VOA employees now on paid administrative leave, the question is: Is there value to preserving the VOA?

As just one example, VOA has done some excellent reporting on CCP aggressive encroachment in the Pacific region, something that's virtually impossible for small, local media to do, says China expert Cleo Paskal. They lose all their advertisers, get blacklisted and attacked, and have no way to sustain themselves. Then, when these journalists get laid off, the local pro-PRC government offers them a stable government job—effectively shutting them up.

"Kari Lake initially talked about, for example, setting up a dedicated unit within VOA to investigate Chinese illegal, coercive, aggressive and deceptive activity throughout the region, and VOA is very well placed to connect those dots," says Cleo Paskal.
