An ultra slow-motion look at how caramels are wrapped.
As the rope of caramel enters the cut & wrap machine it is cut into individual pieces. The piece is then pressed into the wrapper which is then folded around the caramel. A holding wheel then rotates the piece around to the wrapping claws which simultaneously grip each side of the piece of caramel and twist wrap each side. The piece is then ejected down the out-feed chute.
We used to do all of this by hand. It was a very slow and laborious process. The machine does it much faster and more accurately. And because the machine saves us so much time and effort, we are able to pass those cost savings on to you. The $8 box of caramels on our website would be closer to $12 or $13 if we had to go back to hand wrapping. Exactly the same caramel.
At Pioneer Valley, we make a variety of jams, pancake syrups, hard candy image lollies, ice cream toppings, caramels, and more.
