Dugga Boy Hunting in the Jesse in Zimbabwe with Buzz Charlton of Charlton McCallum Safaris

This hunt was in the Jesse of the Zambezi Valley in Zimbabwe. The double rifle I'm using is a 1910 W.J. Jeffery & Co in caliber 475 No 2 Jeffery. It's a 3 1/2" case topped with a 500 grain soft point bullet.

I'm hunting a Cape Buffalo, one of the Big Five. And in particular a "Dugga Boy" which is what male buffalo are called when they can no longer compete with the younger bulls and are either kicked out of the herd or leave voluntarily.

The shot I took was just under 40 yards and blew apart the top of his heart and went through both lungs. He ran a short distance, turned to look back at us and I shot him again with a quartering face on shot. He turned and ran a short way into the Jesse. I could only make out a dark spot I thought was him and took a third shot which ended up not going into him. He fell over dead and did not give the typical death bellow.

An excellent hunt with an excellent team.
