Numbers Chapter 13:

The Israelites, led by Moses, arrive at the border of Canaan, the Promised Land. God instructs Moses to select a leader from each of the 12 tribes to form a reconnaissance team. Their mission is to scout out the land, gather information about its inhabitants, and assess its agricultural potential.

The 12 spies, including Joshua and Caleb, enter Canaan and explore the land for 40 days. They return with a mixed report. On one hand, they confirm the land's fertility and abundance, bringing back samples of its produce, including grapes, figs, and pomegranates.

However, the majority of the spies focus on the negative aspects, emphasizing the strength and size of the inhabitants, including the giants and fortified cities. They express fear and doubt about the Israelites' ability to conquer the land.

Only Joshua and Caleb, two of the spies, demonstrate faith and confidence in God's promise to give them the land. They urge the Israelites to trust in God and move forward with the conquest.

The negative report of the 10 spies spreads fear and discontent among the Israelites, leading them to rebel against Moses and God's plan. This rebellion will have severe consequences, as seen in the subsequent chapters of Numbers.
