** Psalm 96 is a powerful hymn of praise that proclaims the glory and sovereignty of Yahweh, the one true God. Written by King David, it is often considered a part of the Royal Psalms, emphasizing God's kingship over all creation. This psalm was likely composed during a time of great celebration, possibly when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem. It invites all the earth, all nations, and all people to worship and proclaim the salvation and righteousness of God. Psalm 96 reminds us that God alone is worthy of our praise, and He reigns with justice and truth over all the earth.

Why was Psalm 96 written?
David wrote this psalm as a call to worship, urging the people of Israel and the surrounding nations to recognize the greatness of God and His role as the divine King. It is a reminder that our worship should reflect not only gratitude for God’s salvation but also reverence for His sovereignty and righteous judgment.

** Psalm 96 - Original Text (WEB):

1 Sing to Yahweh a new song!
Sing to Yahweh, all the earth.
2 Sing to Yahweh! Bless his name!
Proclaim his salvation from day to day!
3 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples.

4 For Yahweh is great, and greatly to be praised!
He is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
but Yahweh made the heavens.
6 Honor and majesty are before him.
Strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to Yahweh, you families of nations,
ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength.
8 Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due to his name.
Bring an offering, and come into his courts.
9 Worship Yahweh in holy array.
Tremble before him, all the earth.

10 Say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns.”
The world is also established. It can’t be moved.
He will judge the peoples with equity.
11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice.
Let the sea roar, and its fullness!
12 Let the field and all that is in it exult!
Then all the trees of the woods shall sing for joy
13 before Yahweh, for he comes,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
the peoples with his truth.

** Psalm 96 "Sing a New Song Blues" - Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
I hear the wind callin’, through the hills and the trees,
Sing a new song to Yahweh, let it ride on the breeze.
Every nation, every people, hear the sound of His name,
For the Lord, He is mighty, and His truth won’t change.

[Verse 2]
Oh, the gods of this world, they ain’t nothin’ but stone,
But my Lord made the heavens, He sits on the throne.
Honor and majesty, they rest in His hands,
Strength and beauty shine, from His holy land.

[Chorus]
Oh, sing a new song, let the world know He reigns,
The earth won’t be shaken, His justice remains.
Let the heavens be glad, let the oceans roar,
The King is comin’, knockin’ on the door.

[Verse 3]
Bring your offering, step into His light,
Lay your burdens down, let your soul take flight.
In His courts, there’s mercy, in His hands, there’s grace,
Bow before Him now, let your heart embrace.

[Bridge]
Tremble, oh earth, let the trees clap their hands,
The fields start dancin’, when the Lord takes a stand.
He’s comin’ with truth, He’s comin’ with fire,
Righteousness burns like a holy choir.

[Chorus]
Oh, sing a new song, let the world know He reigns,
The earth won’t be shaken, His justice remains.
Let the heavens be glad, let the oceans roar,
The King is comin’, knockin’ on the door.

[Outro]
Sing a new song, don’t hold back your praise,
For Yahweh is coming, and He’s callin’ your name…
