The Disappearing Island in the Caribbean You Have to See to Believe

There is a place in the Caribbean where the ocean reshapes the land, where an island can vanish and return like a secret the sea decides to share. That place is Sandy Island, a tiny stretch of sand just off the coast of Anguilla. When hurricanes sweep through, the island disappears beneath the waves. But when the waters calm, it rises again.

This journey begins with a ferry ride from Sint Maarten to Anguilla, an island known for its quiet beauty, crystal-clear waters, and the kind of elegance that feels effortless. I spent the first day at the incredible Quintessence Hotel, tucked away on one of the most breathtaking beaches I have ever seen. It is the kind of spot where time slows down, the breeze carries the scent of the sea, and everything just feels right.

I then explored the Anguilla Arch, a natural wonder carved by time and tide. It is raw, windswept, and unforgettable, like nature's own sculpture standing strong at the edge of the island.

The next morning, I was picked up at Sandy Ground Pier and taken across the water to Sandy Island. What I found was something truly special. A tiny island with nothing but sand, a few chairs, a beach bar, and endless ocean in every direction. It is the kind of place you have to see to believe. Peaceful, remote, and beautiful in its simplicity.

If you have ever dreamed of escaping to a place that feels untouched and alive, Anguilla delivers. From refined luxury to untamed nature, and from hidden arches to disappearing islands, this trip was a reminder of how powerful and peaceful the ocean can be.
