🇬🇧 Hello! 🙂

ATTEMPTING TO RENDER 'MORE HUMAN’ THE MOVEMENTS OF ATLAS.

Among the various humanoid robots with artificial intelligence, you will certainly remember Atlas in its ‘full electric’ version from Boston Dynamics. We last saw it struggling with the recognition of car parts and the movement of parts on a conveyor cart.

Now the company has partnered with RAI (Robotics and AI Institute) to improve Atlas' learning and make it “more human” in its movements. Now the robot learns not only by seeing humans but also through motion capture data (often used in films or video games) and from some animations.

Surely, from the way it moves, it must also have learnt to fall like martial arts masters do. We would like to emphasise one detail: in this configuration it has no hands, which in our humble opinion distances this robot from the perfection of the ‘humanoid’ model. Will it be able to replicate the same agility in the configuration with hands that it previously used? Certainly there is still work to be done in this regard and this is an experiment.

It is also noticeable during the video that he loses a piece of plastic from his foot during a quick movement (00:48-00:49 and 01:42-01:43). The second part of the video shows the same movements of the robot, but enlarged.

A greeting and see you soon!
Pipplo 🙂
