As wildfire season approaches, insurance companies across Idaho are reevaluating coverage in high-risk areas, leaving many homeowners without protection against potential disaster.

Insurance agents say they are determining whether certain regions are too risky or unprofitable to insure due to increasing wildfire threats. The intensity of recent fires has caused many companies to question whether the risk is worthwhile.

"We got a letter saying that they were dropping us," said Dena Neubaum, a Cascade resident who has faced repeated insurance challenges. "In three months, we've had three insurance companies."

Though Neubaum eventually found coverage, she said her policy excludes wildfire damage. Neubaum suggested that even if a match was lit and the house burned down, the coverage wouldn't be enough.
