Good evening Mayor, Vice Mayor and Council.

My name is Mary Hoover and I’m a resident of Los Gatos

Thank you for having this discussion

Receiving federal funding is crucial for our town

And it’s important to have a plan in place that federal funding is rescinded

We cannot just cross our fingers and wait

We need to prepare

I’d like the Town council to understand that the impacts of the federal administration reach far beyond funding

For example, ICE has been active in Santa Clara County

Medicare and Medicaid are under attack

Environmental regulations are being dismantled and DEI is being outlawed

What will the town council do if ICE enters our community

Will our police department cooperate

Our town has committed to DEI but that means nothing if we don’t protect it

What do these executive orders mean for our own DEI commission and other initiatives

How will we protect them and advance this work?

What is the plan for if our LGBTQ plus community members come under attack as they have in the past

What are we going to do to continue to fight climate change

Community members are scared confused and worried

It is not up to just our state

And federal representatives to communicate with us and address our concerns

Our local elected officials play a vital role and it is your responsibility not to be silent

The county and other cities have passed resolutions supporting immigrants and have allocated funding to protect our community from attack by the federal government

Even if you cannot take measures this drastic you want to know that this is on your radar

You want to know what you plan to do

And you want to be part of these conversations
