Prolonged periods of drought are threatening the land and the culture of the Turkana-Ngaremara people in northern Kenya. In the shadow of tribal conflicts and the climate crisis, orphaned shepherd boy Kolei questions his identity as a warrior.

During a period of record low rainfall in northern Kenya, the Turkana tribe faces growing violent clashes with rival tribes and encroaching wild predators hunting their livestock. Kolei, a sensitive shepherd boy whose name translates to ‘living amongst the goats’, waits impatiently to begin his journey as a traditional warrior.

There’s still no rain and the climate crisis becomes an imminent threat. As more and more wild predators tear through his family's livestock, Kolei is determined to do something about it. And he sees an opportunity to gain his reputation, within his community.
The documentary was filmed over four consecutive years during this unprecedented period of drought. With unprecedented and intimate access to the Turkana people, this moving coming-of-age story reveals the grave threats facing one of the world's oldest communities.
