Stop Trying to Control Your Life—You’re Failing | Facing East - Tue. Mar. 25, 2025

Today’s Readings:
Matthew 16:24-26
Psalm 46:10
Proverbs 3:5-6

* The early Christians were constantly persecuted, yet they didn’t seek control—they sought God’s presence.
* St. Ignatius of Antioch (on his way to martyrdom): "Let me be ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found pure bread for Christ."
* The Desert Fathers taught that attachment to control is the root of fear.
* St. Maximus the Confessor: "He who busies himself with everything external is easily distracted; he who entrusts all things to God remains at peace."
* Fasting was seen not just as a bodily discipline but as a way of handing control back to God.
