May, 1104: battle rages between the crusaders and the Seljuk Turks at Harran. On one side, Bohemond, the unconquered Norman giant, the terror of his enemies, and the dream of Byzantine princesses. He took Antioch from the Turks through blood and cunning. He is joined by his nephew, the young, ruthless, fearless Tancred: a Norman knight without equal whose sword brought God’s vengeance upon Jerusalem back in 1099, and the Count of Edessa, Baldwin II: an ambitious and devout adventurer, who came to the east under the banner of the great pious Duke Godfrey of Bouillon. Their enemies: Jekermish, the ferocious and warlike ruler of Mosul, who leads a vast army of Arabs, Turks, and Kurds, as well as Soqman: a wise, calculating, and ruthless Turcoman patriarch of the Ortoqid dynasty, which has challenged the preeminence of the Seljuks themselves. Who will prevail?
